We recently flew in a very small commercial airplane the Embraer RJ-135 while traveling across the US. We are tall and fat, so this was an interesting adventure to say the least.
This article is a reminder to anyone who is tall and / or fat that might travel on an aircraft.
Pay attention to what plane you fly on and ask if you are not sure if the seats will be comfortable.
According to some messageboards I read (after the flight) seats in row 9 are the best on these planes.. we did not sit in row 9 though
This is the first time during a commercial flight that I've left the airport and walked to the plane on the run way.
When we arrived in Tucson we pulled up to a 'regular' gate and walked right into the airport
Some photos out the window of the airport

Inside the a Embraer RJ-135. Just three seats across. One on it's own, then two next to each other under the overhead storage.
This plane would be a good size for a private airplane but with 37 seats, it is a bit crowded
We left the airport, and walked to the plane, up the stairs and in to our seats
Saving a few dollars was hardly worth the lack of comfort and distance we walked to reach the connecting flight. My advice to travelers is to check out the plane on which you are booked. And check your gates for connecting flights. We almost missed this flight because we needed to walk from the 'regular' portion of the airport, out to the extreme end of the small gates
Travelers would do well to check your gates on connecting flights. Some travel agents don't bother to check that it is possible to make a connecting flight on extreme ends of a large airport
